🔨 Home Maintenance Skills Day Recap! 🏠

On March 27, our Freshman Community participated in a hands-on Home Maintenance Skills Day, where they learned essential skills to prepare them for life beyond high school. This event gave students the opportunity to work alongside industry professionals, gaining practical knowledge they can apply in their homes and future careers.

🔧 What Students Learned:

✅ Basic Tool Knowledge – Identifying and using tools like hammers, drills, screwdrivers, stud finders, and tape measures.
✅ Hammering & Drilling – Practicing how to properly hammer and remove nails, drill pilot holes, and use a screw gun effectively.
✅ Measuring & Stud Finding – Learning how to measure accurately, locate wall studs, and understand the difference between finish nails and wall anchors.
✅ Painting 101 – Exploring painting techniques, from cutting in corners to rolling with long, even strokes, and understanding different types of paint finishes.
✅ Drywall Patching – Repairing holes in drywall, applying patching compound, and understanding the sanding process for a smooth finish.
✅ Electrical Basics – Understanding breaker boxes, GFI outlets, wiring safety, and practicing stripping and installing wires, outlets, and light switches.
✅ Plumbing Essentials – Learning how to remove drain blockages, replace faucets, and shut off water using a water meter.
