Does welding things together seem complex yet fascinating? Check out our welding concentration.
Available completely at the BHS Innovation Center through Ivy Tech, this program teaches basic and advanced welding skills, including oxy-fuel cutting, Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW), and Gas Metal Arc Welding (MIG). Safety is a key focus, following Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and American Welding Society (AWS) guidelines. Students learn about metal properties and welding symbols and how to read blueprints. They get hands-on experience with SMAW, learning to operate and maintain equipment and practice different welding positions. Students also learn MIG welding techniques, like short-arc and spray-arc. Practice exercises and test plates help prepare students for a welding career.
