Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) is a life-threatening emergency that happens when the heart stops beating. It happens in people of all ages, including kids, and comes on with no warning. It’s NOT a heart attack – it’s a structural or electrical issue with the heart.
SCA can be fatal if it’s not treated immediately, but the best way to protect your child is through testing to determine risk for SCA.
The Southeastern Indiana YMCA in conjunction with Giving Hearts a Hand is offering low-cost, $15 screenings at the Y on Friday, October 11, from 8 am-4 pm. The screenings are sponsored by the MCORE Foundation, a nationally-recognized nonprofit dedicated to preventing SCA in youth and young adults through education, screening, and research.
The screenings are for kids ages 12 and up. Each test lasts around 10-12 minutes.
