Face Coverings

Dear Parents,

As you are aware, the Batesville Blueprint is our guiding document for school re-entry and was approved by Ripley County Health Officer, Dr. David Welsh, and the BCSC Board on Monday, July 6th. Our document is a mile marker, not a finish line. As we work through our journey in July, revisions should be expected. Today we are informing you of our first revision.

Batesville Blueprint update:

Mask or Face Shields will be mandated on all BCSC buses and in all buildings. Exceptions to this mandate will be:

  • Breakfast
  • Lunch
  • Snacks
  • Drinks
  • Exemptions due to medical reasons

Mask breaks will be granted during the school day.

Why the change?

In consultation with Margaret Mary Health, Dr. David Welsh, and the BCSC board, the consensus was that the wearing of masks at BCSC will help protect our students, staff, school families, and community. The mandating of masks or face shields will ensure an additional layer of safety for staff and students while amplifying the ability for BCSC to deliver direct instruction to our students for 180 days. The decision to mandate masks was not taken lightly.  Our goal is to keep students in school, and we believe mandating masks will help.

What does this look like?

Parents should send students to school with a mask or face shield.  Masks or face shields must be worn on the bus while traveling in hallways or visiting restrooms, indoor or outdoor recess, while working one-on-one, with a partner, or during small and large group instruction.  We understand that it will be difficult for many of our students to keep masks or shields on an entire day.  Teachers will allow and encourage structured times when students may take their face coverings off.

What if I have questions?

We will be collecting your questions to create a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document about masks and shields. The FAQ will allow all parents the opportunity to see all questions and answers. Well-informed parents will play a crucial role in meeting the BCSC re-entry goals. Please email all questions to batesville_schools@batesville.k12.in.us.
