Meet the School Counselor

Individual Counseling

I provide individual counseling for students who are having difficulties dealing with emotions, relationships (both at home and school), academic/ developmental tasks, etc. and need more one on one help. It is available for all students and intended to be short-term to help the student identify problems/feelings, causes, coping skills, and develop goals to take appropriate action. Students are empowered to create their own goals and to build on their strengths in order to make positive changes.

Referrals to work with me can be initiated by a staff member, family member, administrator, or the student.

Small Group Counseling

I run small groups based upon need. Small groups allow the school counselor to work with 4-6 students on a specific topic. Some examples of what groups might consist of are divorce, grief, student success, anger management, social skills, friendship skills, etc. Some students may just need the support of a group or need to learn how to work better in a group. Groups can last between 6-8 weeks and will be once a week.

Classroom Lessons

I provide students with a developmental and comprehensive classroom counseling curriculum- striving to meet the needs of all students through their academic, social/ emotional, and career development.

The counseling curriculum will consist of the following lessons:

  • Introduction to the School Counselor
  • Bullying Prevention
  • Child Abuse Prevention
  • Personal/ Social Skill lesson (ie Good Character/ Good Choices, Coping skills, etc)

Family Support

I really enjoy working with and helping families. If you have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress in school, want to improve a specific behavior, or just want to talk about your child’s development, please don’t hesitate to contact me. I am willing to help in any way that I can. I will point you in the right direction or provide resources if I don’t have all the answers!

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is an important part of the counseling process. Students are encouraged to share their conversations with the counselor with their families.
