What will we do in counseling?

Some goals I have for this year include teaching whole group lessons to homeroom classes, meeting with students in small groups and with individuals, and eating lunch with students! I can’t wait to set goals with you, spend time working on skills, and getting to know all of the students at BIS.

Whole group lessons

During our whole group counseling lessons, we cover topics such as bullying and child abuse prevention. I also work on personal and social skills lessons such as worry, emotions, coping skills, mindfulness, goal setting, showing gratitude, and celebrating our unique qualities.

Small groups

Small group counseling is available for students who are in need of assistance with social or emotional skills. Some examples include self-confidence, friendships, and mindfulness. Others can also include study skills, time management, and organization. These groups will meet one time a week for 6-8 weeks.

Individual sessions

Individual counseling sessions are available for all students who need assistance with social and emotional skills, with a more individualized approach. This is meant to be short term to help students with a variety of skills including but not limited to emotions, problems, feelings, and academics.

Bully Prevention

Each school year one of the school counselor’s social emotional learning lessons is the topic of Bullying. All Students watch a video about bullying and students are asked to sign a “Bully Free” Pledge.
