Covid-19 Athletics Notice

Posted on: July 15th, 2020 by Josh Bower

We have worked with the Ripley County Health Department in defining procedures and protocols related to Covid-19.  Please note that our top priority is the safety of our athletes, coaches, and athletic trainer.  A key component to our success is the collaborative efforts of everyone involved.

The Ripley County Health Department issued a notice that any student “attending the prom at RomWeber in Batesville on 7/11/20, there is a high possibility that they might have been exposed to Covid-19. If you attended the event, please take the following precautions: self-quarantine and seek Covid 19 testing.”

We would like to thank everyone for their cooperation. Student-athletes directly impacted have been contacted and steps are in place for their return at a later date. Steps to consider include:

  • Student-athletes in attendance at the gathering located at RomWeber, should quarantine for 14 days dating back to the exposure (July 11, 2020).
  • Those student-athletes quarantined may return to participation with proof of a negative test. They will also be screened by the MMH athletic trainer prior to re-entry.
  • Student-athletes quarantined without symptoms may return at the conclusion of the 14-day quarantine without a negative test. They will be screened by the MMH athletic trainer prior to re-entry.
  • Student-athletes testing positive will be required to show proof of negative test. They will also be screened by the MMH athletic trainer prior to re-entry.

Covid-19 testing is available in Ripley County at the Ripley County Fairgrounds in Osgood. To register, please visit www.ihi.care/covidtesting or call 888-634-1116.

As a reminder, if your student-athlete has been in contact with someone who has tested positive for COVID-19, they should be self-quarantining for 14 days per the Ripley County Health Department. It is also recommended that anyone who has been in contact be tested.

If your child has tested positive, we ask you contact Gayla Vonderheide, RN (Director of Health Services) by email at gvonderheide@batesville.k12.in.us. This is to help insure the health and safety of your son/daughter and those student-athletes on their team.

All summer activities are strictly voluntary.
