Academic Team

Do you love to learn? When you learn about something new and exciting, like busting scientific myths or uncovering the true lives of historical figures, do you dive all the way in and find out everything you can about that topic? If so, Academic Team is the place for you!  Come join our academic team coaches, Ms. Katy Tincher and Mrs. Kay Grimsley, and all the other students, who share your excitement and love to put their knowledge to the test in competition with schools from all over the state of Indiana!

Academic team usually meets after school on designated days. During the fall, meets occur about every three weeks on Monday evenings. In the spring, we have more flexible research sessions to prepare for the Academic Super Bowl in May. In 2016, the team’s social studies, fine arts, and science squads all made it to the State Super Bowl at Purdue — with 1st, 3rd, and 4th place finishes respectively.

Our students are typically involved in multiple extracurricular activities, so we allow for some flexibility in practice schedules. Academic Team is divided into captain-led sub-teams organized by content area including:

  • English
  • Fine Arts
  • Interdisciplinary
  • Math
  • Science
  • Social Studies

Competition questions, especially in math and science, often come from upper-level subjects like physics and advanced chemistry, but freshmen should not be intimidated! If you would like further information, please see Mrs. Grimsley or Ms. Tincher.

Wonderful! We look forward to assisting you.
