Title I is a federal program that provides supplementary funding for eligible students who qualify for services based on academic performance. The Title I program at BCSC serves students in kindergarten through fourth grade who demonstrate a need for extra assistance in reading. Student eligibility in the Title I program is based on standardized test scores from mClass, NWEA, ISTEP+.
The Title I program provides students with extra support above and beyond the regular classroom and uses research-based best practices to meet the needs of students. A focus on early intervention is critical. Students in grades kindergarten through fourth grade receive an additional 30-45 minutes of reading instruction four days a week during the school day. Other services provided by Title I include intersessions during Fall and Spring Break, and summer school programs for students in grades K-12.
The purpose of offering these services is to ensure that all children have a fair, equal, and significant opportunity to obtain a high-quality education and reach, at a minimum, proficiency on challenging state academic achievement standards and state academic assessments.
