Batesville Middle School science seeks to provide students with the science and technology skills to succeed in their high school science classes. The material is aligned with the Indiana Academic Standards with mastery of the standards as the desired outcome.
6th Grade Science Curriculum
The 6th grade science curriculum is the first year of Glencoe Indiana Science. This is the only year students take the science ISTEP+ in middle school. The main courses of study are Earth, life, and physical science. Topics covered are the solar system, Earth’s air and water, soil, animal and plant cells, plants, vertebrates and invertebrates, and matter and energy.
7h Grade Science Curriculum
The 7th grade science curriculum is the second year of Glencoe Indiana Science. The main courses of study are life and physical science. Life science covers exploring and classifying life, cells, cell processes, and cell reproduction. Physical science covers motion and momentum, force and Newton’s Laws, energy and energy resources, waves, sound, and light.
8th Grade Science Curriculum
The 8th grade science curriculum is the third year of Glencoe Indiana Science. The main course of study is physical science with a concentration on physics and chemistry, as well as an additional study of biological topics. The emphasis in the physics area is on motion, energy, and electricity. The chemistry studies deals with the history of the atom, the interaction of matter, and chemical reactions. The biological topics include DNA, traits, and heredity.
