Physical Education

Physical Education Grades 3-5

PE classes are conducted by a licensed physical education teacher. Basic skill development, leadership, cooperation and physical fitness are stressed in the program. Students participate in the Presidential Physical Fitness test in the fall and spring.

*One student from each grade level is recognized quarterly for outstanding effort and achievement.

ACADEMIC STANDARDS FOR PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Motor Skills and Movement Patterns 3-5.1 Students demonstrate competency in motor skills and movement patterns needed to perform a variety of physical activities.

Movement Concepts 3-5.2 Students demonstrate an understanding of movement concepts, principles, strategies, and tactics as they apply to the learning and performance of physical activities.

Physical Activity 3-5.3 Students participate regularly in physical activity.

Health-Enhancing Physical Fitness 3-5.4 Students achieve and maintain a health-enhancing level of physical fitness.

Responsible Personal and Social Behavior 3-5.5 Students exhibit responsible personal and social behavior that respects self and others in physical activity settings.

Value of Physical Activity 3-5.6 Students value physical activity for health, enjoyment, challenge, self-expression, and/or social interaction.
